BMF Ambassador Role

BMF Ambassador

Bringing new people into the business is something that I’ve been interested in for a while, which led to me becoming a BMF Ambassador and inspire young people to join the industry. Becoming a BMF Ambassador has helped to promote businesses within the industry, offering the best opportunity within the industry.

When I first started out within the industry, given the opportunity not knowing much about the job this became a key opportunity within my life. Over my 20 years at Grant and Stone, performing many roles within the business involved a variety of tasks impacting on a wide range of jobs. Previous job roles included area sales, working on the trade counter, setting up and running a bathroom showroom and marketing roles with roles leading onto a management position and now running Trading Depot, Grant and Stone’s online business.

In June 2019 I visited the careers day at Rooks Heath College, Eastcote Ln, South Harrow, Harrow HA2 9AH which involved helping to influence students between 14 and 17, with many ideas in their job aspirations and encouraging them into a range of possible positions. With many roles available and different qualifications being used in the job range, many roles can be performed with passion in their task range. With many students considering roles, whether looking to be architects, lawyers, veterinarians or designers, qualifications may be required which they may not have.

Within my role as a BMF Ambassador and helping out the careers day, I tried to bring more awareness to students allowing them to envisage the roles they could undertake with their passions. Within the roles that students wish to undertake, I tried to encourage them that they could make a difference with their passion and job aspiration.

Making a difference within the building, plumbing, electrical, bathroom and kitchen industry can be done simply with many options for the brilliant task range. Many jobs can be undertaken within the industry whatever the qualifications they already have. Attracting more people into the sector is the aim with the promotion of a range of opportunities offered in the industry. Trying to relate expectations, skills, mindset and passions to find a path from their passion to a role in our industry.

Ideas like:
Architect – Bathroom or Kitchen Designer
Computer Programmer – Assisting in running an eCommerce platform
Fashion Designer – Kitchen Designer
Artist – Website Designer
Lawyer – Area Salesman
Politician – HR Manager
Plumber – Plumbing Manager

I would encourage anyone who wants to influence others to join the industry to become an ambassador. As an ambassador, guiding people into the industry helps to encourage them within the range of jobs available, meeting the aspirations within their job roles.
